Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has returned to normal operations following massive eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday which caused dozens of flight cancellations and delays.

Airport spokesperson Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi said domestic flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport began gradually returning to normal on Wednesday night, with international flights resuming the following day.

“Flights to and from the airport that were cancelled or delayed due to the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruptions have been gradually departing and arriving since Wednesday night,” he said on Thursday, as reported by Antaranews.

He added that an ash deposition paper test conducted on Wednesday showed no traces of volcanic ash in the airport area, allowing full flight operations to resume.

The eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki disrupted at least 87 flights to and from Bali on Wednesday, including 66 international and 21 domestic flights.

Affected international routes included destinations such as Adelaide, Auckland, Brisbane, New Delhi, Darwin, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, Pudong, Singapore, Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City.
