he city police on Monday named Ahmad Abdul Qodir Jaelani, popularly known as Dul, 13, the youngest son of musician Ahmad Dhani and Maia Estianti, as a suspect in a fatal traffic accident on Jagorawi toll road, which killed 6 and injured 9 others on Sunday.
'Dul's is [now] a suspect,' police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told journalists at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Rikwanto confirmed that Dul was behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi Lancer at the time of the accident.
'Dul was behind the wheel and lost control. The car careered across the central reservation and ended up in the other lane and hit two other vehicles, a Grand Max and Toyota Avanza,' he said.
According to Rikwanto, Dul will be charged under Article 310 (3) of the 2009 Land Transportation and Traffic Controls Law with a maximum punishment of six years in prison.
'But because Dul is still a child, we will also refer to the 2002 Child Protection Law,' he went on.
Dul is still receiving medical treatment and as such police have not questioned him fully yet.
'According to Article 13 of the Child Protection Law, investigating a child involved in a legal case requires a special procedure with assistance from psychologists or child experts, child protection institutions and all procedures up until the trial should be closed to the public,' he said.
If proven guilty, Dul will only receive half of maximum sentence of 6 years in prison as he is still underage. (apt/ebf)
