he Al A'zhom Grand Mosque Welfare Council (DKM) will hold a 10-day festival that features a series of events from Nov. 6 in Tangerang Municipality in conjunction with the commemoration of the Islamic New Year of 1435 Hijriah which falls on Nov. 5.
'The events to be held during the festival include a long march involving 1,435 participants, tabligh akbar [mass prayer], seminars and a book exhibition,' Romi Abidin, the event organizer said on Monday.
He said that initiatives to hold the event came from Arief R. Wimansyah, the acting Tangerang mayor.
'Lately, Muslims are only celebrating the ordinary New Year with various events but they forget the Islamic New Year. This fact really drew concerns,' he said.
Meanwhile, the municipal MUI chairman Edi Junaedi said MUI highly appreciated initiatives to hold the festival in an effort to disseminate the teachings of Islam through the event.
'We hope that the society can define the momentum of the Islamic year change with introspection and self improvement,' he said.
