Helicopter crashes in Karo, one dead, four in critical condition

helicopter belonging to Efarina Etaham Hospital crashed after it encountered issues in front of the hospital on the trans Berastagi-Kabanjahe highway, Karo, North Sumatra, on Monday.

A technician, Arif Setiawan, was reported to have been killed in the accident while the chopper'€™s pilot, Budi, and three passengers '€“ Nilawati Ginting, Torang Simanjorang and Yahya Sembiring -- sustained severe injuries.

Karo administration spokesperson Jhonson Tarigan said the helicopter crashed when it was preparing to fly Efarina Hospital officials. He said the cause of the crash was still being investigated.

Separately, North Sumatra Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) head Asren Nasution said the helicopter belonged to Simalungun Regent JR Saragih, who is also the owner of Efarina Hospital.

He confirmed that the Simalungun regent was not among the victims. '€œHe was not in the helicopter,'€ Asren said. (ebf)
