No less than 11,000 people took part in the first The Color Run being held in Jakarta.
The fun race brought runners from all walks of life, and ages, in running shoes or wheelchairs, to jog for 5 kilometers around the eastern part of Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Sunday.
The untimed, tematic running events sponsored by CIMB Niaga was started at about 7:22 a.m. with all runners reached the finish line on the Parkir Timur Senayan at 8:30 a.m.
All participants had a touch of bright colors on their costume and many had even taken another mile to dress up as brides, ghouls and Axl Rose.
Colorful powders were sprayed on the runners passing through four locations to live up to the event's name.
The organizer also distributed packs of the cornstarch-based colored powders so the participants could accessorize more before taking pictures at photo booths which would be automatically uploaded on Twitter dan Facebook.
The drizzles that started after 9 a.m. failed to disperse the party runners crowding around the main stage for entertainment and awards distributed to lucky ones and the best dressed.
"Despite the weather, we are glad that The Color Run could take place today. It is the first international-scale race to be held in Indonesia this year," said CIMB Niaga president director Arwin Rasyid.
The Color Run, also known as the Happiest 5K on the Planet, was debuted in January 2012 in Tempe, Arizona, and currently had traveled to 120 cities in the United States and 50 international cities. (bby)
