ndonesia's largest pharmaceutical company, Soho Global Health, is aiming to achieve Rp 1 trillion (US$84.7 million) in traditional medicine sales by the end of 2014.
Soho Global Health vice president for professional products, Sugiharjo, said that market confidence in herbal and traditional health products was driving Soho's large market share in herbal medicines.
'The Indonesian people have trusted our remedies for decades and have made us a leading force in the traditional medicine market. Our focus on quality is the key to developing our business,' Sugiharjo said on Saturday.
He revealed that in 2006, the market value of traditional medicines in Indonesia amounted to Rp 5 trillion and had been growing significantly every year, to Rp 7.2 trillion by 2008 and Rp 13 trillion in 2012, accounting for 2 percent of the total value of traditional medicines sold worldwide, according to Antara news agency.
Meanwhile, professional products marketing analyst Hartono Kho said that Soho's reliable reputation in Indonesia was not due to the company being the first to push the traditional medicine market, but was due to the quality of their products.
'Getting a health product on the market takes about a year or two before being licensed by the Healthcare Ministry and others,' he said.
