T

he North Sumatra Police have launched an investigation into Belawan Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Oloan Siahaan, who is accused of fatally shooting a teenager allegedly involved in a brawl.

North Sumatra Police Chief Insp. Gen. Whisnu Hermawan Februanto said that he has formally requested that the National Police Headquarters temporarily suspend Oloan from his duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

"The suspension is crucial to ensure that investigators from the General Crime Directorate, the Internal Affairs Division [Propam] and the Forensic Laboratory Division can conduct an impartial and transparent investigation into the case," he said on Monday.

Oloan is under investigation after he allegedly shot at a group of teenagers in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old and the injury of a 17-year-old.

Whisnu claimed that Oloan acted in self-defense, as the teenagers reportedly attacked him. However, he emphasized that investigators would determine whether any procedural errors were made in Oloan's actions.

"We will take strict action if any procedural errors are found and will keep the public informed about the progress of the investigation," he said.
