A US-Indonesia partnership has produced environmentally friendly and cost- efficient cellular tower batteries
A US-Indonesia partnership has produced environmentally friendly and cost- efficient cellular tower batteries.
PT Fluidic Energy Indonesia (FEI) opened their Indonesian manufacturing plant in 2010 and is now partnering with Indonesian telecommunications company Indosat to provide battery power for cellular towers that are connected to unreliable power grids.
US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert Blake said he praised the high technology US ' Indonesia business cooperation and highlighted 'the significant strides Indonesian companies have made in environmentally friendly practices'.
He was speaking on the sidelines of his visit to the American-owned Fluidic Energy factory in Bogor, West Java, on Monday.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Fluidic Energy uses metal-air battery technology and integrated intelligence to develop energy storage solutions for various peak shaving applications.
The zinc-air technology used in Fluidic's batteries is environmentally benign, and replaces more environmentally harmful diesel generators and lead acid batteries.
An Indosat representative who was present in the visit said Fluidic's batteries were also more cost-efficient and reliable for their operations than alternative solutions.
Fluidic has received approximately US$7 million from U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) grants.
'Fluidic Energy's technology is exciting because it's not only on the cutting-edge of battery technology, but it also has the potential for wide application in Indonesia,' said Blake in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday. (ebf)
