T

he rupiah trade among banks in Jakarta on Tuesday morning strengthened slightly by six basis points to Rp 11,680 per US dollar from the previous Rp 11,686 per dollar.

"The rupiah strengthened today after depreciating yesterday. However, this appreciation is limited due to lack of positive sentiment in the domestic market," Monex Investindo Futures research head Ariston Tjendra said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said market players were waiting for the ruling in the presidential election dispute at the Constitutional Court.

The court is slated to announce the result on Thursday.

"The investors need certainty because they want to invest here. They also want the government transition to run smoothly," he said.

Trust Securities research head Reza Priyambada said the strengthening of the rupiah was line with a number of Asian currencies that strengthened in the morning, such as Korea's won and Thailand's baht.

"There is a good possibility that the rupiah will continue to appreciate throughout the day since we are seeing positive sentiment from the global market," he added. (nfo)
