hen it'€™s always raining outside and your children need a day out, indoor playgrounds in shopping malls are an alternative. Some playgrounds offer not only fun games but also educational opportunities. Check out our list to find out more.

Kidzania Jakarta

The Mexican chain of family entertainment centers is a theme park built as a child-sized replica of a real city, complete with offices and shops.

The children can choose from 110 professions and practice the activities. They can shop like their mothers do, too!

Currently, there are 72 establishments available that are divided in two categories: Urban (complete with a bank, theater, hospital, radio station, gym, gas station, police station, driving school and race track) and suburban (with a factory, pharmacy, TV station and a university).

The newest addition is the Kawasaki Safety Riding School, where children aged 16 months old and above can learn how to ride a real bike, equipped with training wheels, of course.

Mikrobot Experience Center

If your kids are into Legos and robots, then this is a great spot to indulge them. You can either sign up for membership or you can also purchase walk-in course depending on your children'€™s age.

The walk-in course is available for children of aged 6 years old and above and allows kids to design, build, program and play with models - such as swings, sailboat, windmills and vehicles - to help them understand mechanical movements.

Memberships are available for children 8 years old and above who are interested in robots.

Location: Crystal Lagoon, Senayan City shopping mall, Jl. Asia-Afrika Lot. 19.

Atmostfear

If your children are the kind of kids who are always up for challenges, then you should take them to this place.

Challenge them to ride the slide down from the 7th floor to the 3rd floor in seven seconds. After completing the challenge, they will get a certificate and a photograph of their natural expression taken during the process. Atmostfear is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Last but not least, this thrill ride is only for children over 130 centimeters tall.

Chipmunks Playland & Café

The New Zealand-based Chipmunks Playland & Café Indonesia is a cartoon-themed village with various indoor equipment ranging from a flying fox to an adventure bridge, playland structure, bumper car, rocking ships and toddler rides (merry-go-round, rocking ships and an LED water bed).

A five-meter-high wave slide with a ball blaster and a six-meter-high giant slide are also available for children who seek an adrenaline rush.

The café part of Chipmunks is a set up with a small stage, karaoke room and two private party rooms with a removable partition. Each party room is convenient for celebrating birthday parties and is able cater up to 100 children.

Sky Rink Jakarta

Sky Rink Jakarta is said to be one of the largest ice skating rinks in Southeast Asia. The rink provides skate rentals, lockers and a snack bar.

If your children want to become better skaters, you can enroll them in the skating school, which cooperates with the US-based Ice Skating Institute (ISI). All skaters with the figure skating program are allowed to participate in the ISI Testing Program and ISI competitions all around the world.

Other popular programs include ice hockey, with classes available for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Rockstar Gym

The Rockstar Gym provides gym sets for children and teenagers. Various activities are available here, including gymnastic exercises, dance, ballet, martial arts (taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wushu, muay thai and capoeira) and fun fit programs that offers cardio and yoga classes for ages from 1 to 16.

To monitor the children'€™s progress, periodic report cards will be given to all members. Once they completed a program, kids will receive an international certificate.

Lollipop'€™s Playland & Café


Also from New Zealand, this indoor entertainment center caters children age between 1 and 11 years old.

In addition to its miscellaneous attractions '€“ ranging from a trampoline to coin-operated rides '€“ Lollipop'€™s Playland & Cafe at Senayan City also offers a spacious and comfortable seating area.

While waiting, parents can savor the café'€™s dishes on one of the sofas near the windows and enjoy a view of the city.
