landslide hit Gemaharjo village in Pacitan, East Java, on Tuesday night, burying at least two vehicles and paralyzing traffic between Pacitan and Ponorogo.
Antara news agency reported on Wednesday morning that the two vehicles were evacuated after several units of heavy equipment were deployed, although transportation between the two towns had yet to return to normal.
There were no fatalities were reported in the incident.
Disaster Mitigation Agency head I Pacitan Tri Mujiharto said his side was still working on an alternative route but only small vehicles such as motorcycles and four-wheel vehicles were allowed to use it.
Tri said it would take three days to remove tons of earth from the road.
Local people said the landslide was triggered by incessant rains on Tuesday in the regency. (rms)(++++)
