T

wo young British men died while on holiday at the same hotel on Spain's holiday island of Ibiza during a 10-day period in unrelated incidents, police said Thursday.

Police were called to the hotel in Sant Antoni de Portmany just after midnight on Monday after the body of a British man in his early 30s was found in a room by one of his friends, a local police spokesman said.

The man, who was not identified, died of a drug overdose, the spokesman added.

Another British man in his mid-20s was found dead also just after midnight on May 30 after falling from a balcony of the hotel.

"An investigation is being carried out but appears that the fall was voluntary," the police spokesman said.

A number of deaths at hotels in Spanish resorts in recent years have been attributed to a craze called "balconing" where guests hop from one balcony to another or from a great height into a swimming pool.

Police had ruled out the possibility that the man who died at the hotel was carrying out "balconing", the spokesman said.

The six-story hotel has 366 rooms has a huge swimming pool and is located near the beach and a number of famous nightclubs on the island.

It describes itself as "ideal for young people" on its website. (iik)(++++)
