he Jakarta administration is mulling the issuance of permits for the distribution of sahur (predawn meals) on the streets for poor people.
'At the moment, the city's general secretary is drafting a regulation,' Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.
Ahok explained that the regulation was being made because many 'sahur on the road' operations had strayed from their original purpose in that it resulted in so much trash being haphazardly discarded.
The generous activities are useless, Ahok said, when they encourage people to litter.
'They say that cleanliness is part of faith,' he said.
Ahok added that his office had consulted with Muslim leaders on its plan to regulate 'sahur on the road.' (ika)(+++)
