oogle Indonesia announced on Wednesday that it had added 23 cities to the number of locations available across the country on its Google Maps application, to help travelers during the Muslim holiday of Idul Fitri.
Previously, Google Maps users could only access real-time traffic information in 19 big cities in Indonesia, including Semarang, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Denpasar, Bali.
'Our purpose is so that the travelers can find the fastest route to go to their destinations,' Google Indonesia program management director Suren Ruhela said as quoted by tempo.co.
During Idul Fitri, many people travel to their parents or relatives' houses in villages. This ritual has led to an increase of traffic outside big cities.
Google Maps is an app developed by Google to update users on traffic conditions. The app also includes information on accidents, road maintenance and road blockages. (ika)(++++)
