Bioalpha Holdings from Malaysia is set to build a plant in Kampar regency, Riau.
Bioalpha is a company involved in the manufacture and sale of health supplement products. It processes herbs, combines ingredients, creates food products and produces herbal and non-herbal supplements.
"The construction will start in a few months time," Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) senior vice president Abdul Rahman Yasir told the press during a visit to Kampar on Tuesday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
According to Yasir, the first phase of the plant's investment will reach US$3 million.
The company will also invest in 51 hectares of land to grow herbal plants such turmeric, pasak bumi (Eurycomafisa longifolia) and temulawak (Javanese ginger), situated at the Sungai Pinang area in Tambang district, Kampar.
Herbal plants that exist in Malaysia but are not available in Indonesia will also be grown at the new site.
"We have produced various kinds of herbal medicine in Malaysia to be sold in many countries, including China," said Bioalpha CEO William Hon.
"I think Kampar has a lot of potential as a place to grow herbal plants as there is still a lot of space available," Hon added.
Kampar regent Jefry Noer supported the plan and has expressed hopes of new employment opportunities for local residents. (kes)(++++)
