AKARTA: Film director and producer Ifa Isfansyah has been granted the ARTE International Prize totaling '¬6,000 (US$6,775), which will help to fund his upcoming film, Tanah Terbuang (Wasted Land).
He received the prize during the Asian Project Market (APM), a coproduction platform at the Busan International Film Festival, South Korea, held on Oct. 6.
'The most crucial thing is not the funds, but the value behind the prize,' he told kompas.com on Thursday shortly after landing in Jakarta.
'This means that we can have access to the wider market. With ARTE giving this award, this film will have a chance to be screened and distributed in Europe,' he said regarding the France TV network.
Ifa will take the producer post on the film, alongside Isabelle Glachant from France.
Directed by Edi Cahyono, Wasted Land centers on a mother in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, trying to meet with her daughter, a migrant worker in China who is facing the death penalty after being tricked by her friend into sending a drug package.
