City procurement agency lacks transparency, Ahok says Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (tempo.co) (tempo.co)

Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama has expressed his disappointment with the performance of the City Goods and Services Procurement Agency (BPPBJ), saying that he received many complaints about a lack of transparency in determining tender winners.

'€œI have asked several times: Why doesn'€™t the agency open the process of determining the winners of tenders? The answer is that [the tender bid] is a confidential document. But if it is for justice and better [results], why not?'€ Ahok asked in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The governor said he had ordered BPPBJ head Bless Mianda to inform all participants of tenders about the entire process, starting from the beginning of the process up to the reason why a certain company wins the tender.

'€œIf the process was transparent, anyone could look into the process,'€ Ahok said, adding that if the city procurement agency failed to open the tender process, it would spark speculation that there was collusion in deciding the outcome of tenders.

'€œThat is why I was angry. [My advice] was not be implemented. I do not like Pak Bless. He heeded [my advice] only after I had already checkmated him,'€ the governor said.

Ahok ordered the procurement agency to follow the detailed tender process as stipulated in the e-budgeting system, which already aims to ensure transparency. (bbn)
