he House of Representatives’ ethics council is looking to work alongside the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) to handle assault allegations leveled at House member Masinton Pasaribu.
“We will try to coordinate with Bareskrim to follow up the case,” the council’s deputy chief, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said at the House complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday.
Masinton, a lawmaker from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, was on Saturday evening reported to the police for allegedly hitting his aide Dita Aditya earlier this month.
“Masinton hit Dita. We have filed an incident report [to the police],” NasDem Party Jakarta executive board chair Wibi Andrino said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday. Dita is also a member of the party’s Jakarta executive board.
Sufmi said the council had not received any report related to the alleged assault, but would monitor the development of the case and take any necessary action.
Masinton has denied the accusations, professing bafflement over the report.
"It’s clear this is politically motivated […] this is a form of character assassination," Masinton said as quoted by kompas.com. (ebf)
