T

he House of Representatives has said it will postpone the deliberation of the terrorism law amendment to the next sitting session in April to make sure that the lawmakers had adequate time to discuss the terrorism bill.

“We will discuss the amendment in the upcoming sitting session, after the recess", House speaker Ade Komarudin said in Jakarta on Monday.

The House’s current siting session will end on Friday and will resume again in early April.

Based on the meeting on Feb. 25, the amendment of the terrorism law will be deliberated in a special committee (Pansus), whose members would come from lawmakers from Commission I overseeing defense issues and Commission III overseeing legal issues.

But so far, only the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has submitted its names of lawmakers to join the committee. The party proposed Al Muzzamil Yusuf and Sukamta to become members of the committee.

The House has been long criticized for its poor performance in lawmaking. Last year, it could only produce three laws.

The amendments of Law No. 15/2003 on the Eradication of Terrorism and Law No. 9/2013 on the Prevention and Eradication of Terrorist Financing are among 40 prioritized bills listed in the House’s National Legislation Program (Baleg), this year. (bbn)
