he police have said they are waiting for a response from the Polish Embassy in Jakarta in connection with the recent death of a Polish national, who was believed to have committed suicide at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Sunday.

“Today we delivered an official letter to the embassy but we haven’t had any response yet,” airport police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Endang Sutrisna told thejakartapost.com on Monday.

The 31-year-old Michał Jarosław Gorlikowski was found dead by Komarudin, a shoe shiner, around 5.30 a.m., who immediately reported his discovery to the police.

The victim's passport and bags were found near the location where he died. In his bags, the police found clothes, hiking equipment, a wallet containing Polish currency, a cell phone and a boarding pass.

According to information in his passport, Gorlikowski arrived in Indonesia on Sunday and it was his first visit to the country.

Endang said the police had phoned and visited the embassy in Jakarta regarding the incident, but had yet to receive a response. The police have also not received any information from the family of the deceased.

The victim's body is being held at Tangerang General Hospital (RSUD). The police cannot yet carry out an autopsy because they have not obtained permission from the family and the embassy.

“From making observations at the location and other examinations, we didn’t find any signs of violence,” Endang said, adding that the motivation behind the possible suicide was unknown.

The police, however, remained open to other possibilities over the cause of death, he added. (bbn)
