he Jakarta administration is set to implement numerous measures to make the Lapangan Banteng park in Central Jakarta more attractive to visitors.
Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that while currently open until 9 p.m., Lapangan Banteng would soon be accessible 24 hours.
“The park will be lit for 24 hours so that people can still enjoy the scenery until late at night,” Ahok said in a weekly meeting with his subordinates, as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Monday.
Ahok added that the administration would also establish a food hall in the area akin to Lenggang Jakarta near the National Monument in Central Jakarta, where the administration placed food vendors who used to be spread out across the National Monument area.
The food court, he added, would occupy a four-hectare plot in Lapangan Banteng and was hoped to help local vendors by attracting park visitors to their stalls.
“However, the food offered in the area must gain certificates from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM),” Ahok said, adding that once the place was well arranged, people from Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral — which are located in the vicinity — would visit the park after their services.
