occer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti, who was named a suspect in a graft case, is scheduled to be deported to Indonesia, an official with the Singaporean government announced.
Singapore’s Home Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that La Nyalla had "overstayed his social visit pass and committed an immigration offense in Singapore" and that he was to be deported after his "immigration offense was dealt with in accordance with Singapore laws".
Immigration office spokesman Heru Santoso confirmed La Nyalla’s arrest and deportation.
“We can confirm that he overstayed in Singapore and is ready to be handed over to our immigration officers at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to proceed with bringing him back to Indonesia,” Heru was quoted by kompas.com.
La Nyalla was scheduled to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang at 6:30 p.m. this evening and was to be handed over to prosecutors.
La Nyalla, who still chairs the PSSI, was named a suspect in a graft investigation in March involving a grant worth about Rp 5.3 billion (US$388,421) to the East Java chapter of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
He was later reported to have fled to Malaysia and then to Singapore.
Indonesian authorities subsequently revoked his passport. (dmr)
