T

he Jakarta administration, through slaughterhouse operator PD Dharma Jaya, has ordered 270 tons of Australian beef to secure meat stocks during Ramadhan.

The beef shipments will be sent to the Dharma Jaya slaughterhouse and delivered on June 14, 17, 22, 27 and 29.

On Tuesday, 40 tons of frozen beef will be stored at Dharma Jaya’s storage facility in Cakung, East Jakarta.

“During the fasting month, the city’s demand for frozen beef will be met by Australia. Meanwhile, another 200 tons of beef from New Zealand will be imported after Idul Fitri,” Marina Ratna Dwi Kusumajati, president director of PD Dharma Jaya, told thejakartapost.com on Monday.

The frozen beef will be distributed through market operations in 20 locations across the capital, with prices at Rp 78,000 (US$5.85) to Rp 89,000 per kilogram.

Market operations have been conducted from June 4 and will last until July 14.

Another 120 tons of imported beef will be allocated for subsidized operations for low-income families in the capital from June 27 to July 1, she said, adding that the beef would be sold for Rp 39,000 per kilogram to occupants of low-cost apartments and holders of Jakarta Smart Cards (KJPs).

Meanwhile, to meet demand for fresh beef, Dharma Jaya received 800 head of cattle from East Nusa Tenggara on Sunday, Marina said. (bbn)
