T

he House of Representatives is considering banning the wildly popular augmented-reality game Pokemon Go at the complex because some members think the activities related to the game are useless, House Speaker Ade Komarudin said on Wednesday.

Ade said he plans to invite House deputy speakers to a meeting to discuss restricting Pokemon hunting in the House area.

"If the hunting disrupts productivity, it will be better if we don't allow it," the Golkar politician told journalists on Wednesday, adding that he was aware of the game but did not participate in it.

He did not know if any lawmakers played the game, which he said was "useless" and "has no purpose".

Meanwhile, House Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon from the Gerindra Party said he agreed with Ade's plan to restrict the game and even suggested that all government institutions should ban Pokemon hunting from their jurisdictions.

The State Palace, the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police have already restricted the hunting of the digital monsters on their premises over security concerns.

Previously, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu warned Pokémon Go players that they might unknowingly capture secret information while using their phones to collect the game's virtual creatures. The military’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) Cyber Taskforce had also advised people not to play the game in strategic locations, especially on military bases, to prevent intelligence information from being leaked to foreign intelligence bodies.
