olice caught red-handed two Meranti Islands regency residents, Riau, identified as YD and SF, for allegedly logging illegally in a forest at the Buton highway in Mengkapan village, Siak regency, Riau.

Siak Regency Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Restika Nainggolan said the suspects were arrested by a team led by Siak Police Crime and Intelligence chief Adj. Comr. Reza on Saturday at noon following a report from the public.

“We seized four cubic meters of timber, which had been sawn into planks, including a chain saw and bicycle, which had been modified to transport timber out of the forest,” Reza told journalists on Sunday.

He said suspect TD was spotted by police while transporting the sawn timber out of the forest by bicycle.

YD directly revealed the logging location after interrogation. “After walking for 2 km from the location, the team managed to find the other suspect, SF, who was unaware of police presence,” said Reza.
