Terrorist attack survivors sympathize with Samarinda church attack victims

span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language:EN-US">Survivors of past terrorist attacks sympathized on Thursday with victims of a recent attack on the Oikumene Church in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, and called on the police to work hard to prevent a similar incident from occurring in other places in the country.
Sucipto Hari Wibowo, who was injured in the 2004 Australian Embassy bomb attack in Kuningan, South Jakarta, asked the victims to accept the reality so they could get past the trauma of their ordeal.
“If we accept the tragedy, we can think and act well too,” he said at a press conference in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
Following the 2004 attack, Sucipto co-founded the Indonesian Survivors Foundation, which helps victims of terrorist attacks.
Like Sucipto, Dwi Welasih, a victim of the 2003 JW Marriott Hotel bomb attack in Jakarta, said accepting the reality about the incident was what helped her get past the trauma.
“It is better that we don’t hold onto the anger toward anyone, not toward the government nor the terrorists. It helps with getting one’s life back on track,” she said.
The Samarinda Church attack occurred on Sunday just after Sunday Mass. The perpetrator threw a Molotov cocktail at the church, injuring four toddlers. One of the children, Intan Olivia Marbun, 3, died from her injuries the next day. (jun)
