he General Elections Commission (KPU) has been urged by an elections watchdog to pay more attention to regional elections outside Jakarta as coverage of next year’s simultaneous elections is thought by some to be too capital-centric.
Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) head Titi Anggraeni said the KPU should create a balance in exposure so that regional elections outside Jakarta could get proper attention from the public.
“I think the KPU should take bold action and find a solution so that regional elections in other regions are not overlooked,” Titi said during a discussion with the election organizer in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.

Titi said she was afraid voters in other regions were more exposed to the issues and candidates in the Jakarta gubernatorial election, rather than the candidates in their own respective areas.
“This happens in many regions. Voters discuss the issues in the Jakarta election, even though their houses are in Banten,” she said. (fac/jun)
