he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sealed three rooms at the Klaten regency administration office complex as part of its investigation, following the arrest of Klaten Regent Sri Hartini on Friday.
The three rooms are the offices of the Klaten regent, the Klaten administration’s regional secretary (Sekda) and the Klaten Employee Affairs Agency (BKD) head. The KPK also sealed a Kijang Innova car belonging to the administration.
KPK investigators arrested Sri Hartini at her official residence at around 9 a.m. on Friday. She was arrested for allegedly accepting bribes related to the transfer of officials at the Klaten administration’s working units. Around Rp 2 billion (US$ 148,809.60) in cash was confiscated during the raid.
Apart from Sri Hartini, two officials from the Klaten Education Agency were reportedly also taken into custody. The Klaten regent’s assistant Tri Nugroho said KPK investigators took Sri Hartini and the two officials all together in the same car.
“In the car, there were Klaten Education Agency secretary Sudirno, the agency’s elementary education department head Bambang Teguh and BKD staff placement head Slamet,” said Tri.
Klaten administration regional secretary Jaka Sawaldi claimed he did not know the details of the arrest. He further claimed he learned about the arrest from news reports in the media.
“It’s true Ibu [Sri Hartini] has been arrested by the KPK. But how it happened and who else has been arrested, I don’t know,” said Jaka.
He further said the arrest of the regent might affect several activities in the Klaten administration that had already been scheduled, including the inauguration of 800 new officials planned for Friday evening.
“We are coordinating it with Pak Ganjar [Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo].” (ebf)
