upporters of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono have urged President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to be neutral during the upcoming election, considering Jokowi's running mate was incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama when he ran for the capital's top post five years ago.

The group, under the moniker "Jaringan Nusantara" (archipelago network), made the request Wednesday and also declared that it would guard the gubernatorial election process from any fraudulent acts.

"Fraudulent acts and attempts to damage the Democratic Party can be detected earlier with some preventive actions," said Iing Irwansyah, a member of the group, at Agus' campaign office on Jl. Wijaya, South Jakarta.

Iing said that volunteers also urged the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) to immediately upload the recapitulation documents, known as C1 forms, on their official website after the election so the public could monitor the vote totals.

Furthermore, the organization hoped that the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) would do its job in monitoring the election on Feb. 15, he said.

Agus who attended the group's declaration said that he was thankful for his volunteers' commitment.

He added that the volunteers could monitor the election process even before election day, especially to prevent vote buying.

Agus also hoped the volunteers could monitor the delivery of ballots from polling stations to KPU Jakarta, as well as the tallying of the votes.
