T

wo men were injured when an elevator dropped 60 centimeters at Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Building II, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday.

The elevator, carrying 17 people, arrived at the ground floor, dropped 60 centimeters and jolted, said Central Jakarta Police's criminal unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Mustakim.

Because of the jolt, the elevator's ceiling fell and injured two men.

Shocked by the incident, bystanders immediately helped the victims by forcing the elevator doors open.

"One of the men was bleeding on the head while the other had severe bruising," Mustakim told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

The incident is being investigated by Tanah Abang Police. Three witnesses have been questioned so far.

Rumors circulated on social media after a Path user claimed that the elevator plunged from the 11th floor to the third floor. BRI corporate secretary Hari Siaga was quoted by Antara news agency as saying on Friday that the rumor was false. (evi)
