ncumbent Cilacap Regent Tato Suwarto Pamuji and running mate Syamsul are ahead in the local election with 57 percent of the vote, according to a quick count conducted by pollster Script Survei Indonesia (SSI).

The Tofik Hidayat-Faiqoh ticket, meanwhile, garnered 26 percent while Fran Lukman-Bambang got 16 percent, according to SSI.

"That's the result we have as of this evening," Tato-Syamsul campaign team member Taufik Hidayatulloh said on Wednesday.

The Tato-Syamsul ticket is backed by the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Democratic Party, the Golkar Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN).

Irfan Fauzani, a Cilacap-based activist from the country's largest Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama, said the fact that Tato was the incumbent regent made him difficult to beat.

Aniroh, a member of the Cilacap General Elections Commission (KPU Cilacap), said election day ran smoothly without security incidents.

The regency has 1.4 million registered voters. (bbs)
