T

he campaign team of incumbent Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama plans to report the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) and the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) for allegedly ignoring offensive propaganda against its candidate.

The team will report the two institutions to the Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) and hope KPU Jakarta head Sumarno will be fired, the team's spokesman Bestari Barus said on Wednesday.

"There are banners discrediting our candidates but the two institutions remained silent and did nothing to take them down," Bestari told The Jakarta Post, adding that Bawaslu had acted unprofessionally by not reprimanding KPUD Jakarta for its silence.

The hateful banners, he added, included those installed on several mosques across Jakarta, which call on Muslims not to perform funeral prayers for a deceased Muslim found to have supported Ahok, a Christian of Chinese ethnicity.

The team is currently preparing the necessary documents for the report, Bestari added.
