T

he campaign team of incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has requested that the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) allow its witnesses to have access to verify voters' documents during election day on April 19.

"The commission should let the witnesses be mobile should they need to see the voters’ documents," I Gusti Putu Artha, a member of Ahok's campaign team, said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Putu said the current design of polling stations, where witnesses sat across the officers, had hampered the monitoring of voter data verification.

As a result, during the first round of the election on Feb 15, there were cases where witnesses could not stop violations when officers let some voters use the C6 form (voting invitation) on behalf of other voters.

From 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., the officers should also be allowed to stand beside the officers to check the documents of voters who plan to vote by using an e-ID and the recommendation letter, Putu said.

KPU Jakarta head Sumarno said on Thursday that the team's suggestion may be implemented as long as it did not disrupt voting. (cal)
