C

ommuter trains serving Greater Jakarta will run as usual on Friday ahead of a planned rally to demand Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama be dismissed from his post.

Commuter line operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KJC) spokesperson Eva Chairunisa said the management would deploy additional officers at stations that were expected to see an increase in passengers. Additional ticket counters will also be opened at stations close to rally location.

“We [the operator] will operate regular 886 services on Friday,” Eva Chairunisa, spokesperson of PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek, said in a statement on Thursday.

The rally, called “Aksi 313” referring to March 31, is expected to draw more than 20,000 people. It is a follow up to previous protests held to demand the removal of Ahok such as “Aksi 411” on Nov. 4 and “Aksi 212” on Dec. 2 last year. Ahok is currently standing trial for alleged blasphemy.

“There will be seven mobile counters at Juanda Station, while at Gondangdia there will be an additional five and two at Palmerah,” Eva said.

Eva suggested passengers use multi-trip cards (KMTs) to avoid long queues. For passengers using daily tickets (THBs), Eva said it would be convenient if they bought round-trip tickets at their station of departure.

The management also suggested passengers disembark at other stations, such as Cikini or Sawah Besar, if Juana and Gondangdia stations, which were closer to the center of the rally location at the Istiqlal Grand Mosque, Central Jakarta, were crowded. (kkk)
