he Directorate General of Taxation will work more closely with other institutions to allow them to ascertain taxpayers’ status before they issue required documents such as licenses.
The government launched a system known as the taxpayers’ status confirmation (KSWP) in 2016, which is part of wider tax reforms, said chairman of the Directorate General of Taxation’s tax office reform team, Suryo Utomo, in Tanjung Pandan, Bangka Belitung, on Monday.
The system aims to connect the data in regional governments, ministries and other government offices to tax offices.
Someone wishing to obtain licenses from government institutions such as a building permit (IMB) is required to confirm their tax identification number (NPWP) and that they have submitted their annual tax returns for the previous two years.
"Currently the system in the local administrations of Bogor, Jakarta and Surabaya have been connected online. We will work with those institutions," Suryo said.
Other than regional governments, five ministries have already implemented the system namely the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, Environment and Forestry Ministry, and the Home Ministry. (bbn)
