he death toll from a fatal multiple-vehicle collision in Ciloto subdistrict, Cianjur, West Java, on Sunday has risen to 12 people, a recent report from the Cianjur Police traffic unit revealed.

“The number of victims has risen to 12 people. The deceased bodies have all been admitted to the Cimacan Regional Hospital,” Cianjur Police traffic unit director Adj. Comr. Erik Bangun Prakarsa told reporters on Sunday.

According to an ongoing investigation, Erik said, the accident was caused by a brake system malfunction of a Puncak-bound bus, which lost control and hit multiple vehicles — three cars, four motorcycles and a public minivan — traveling in the opposite direction.

At least 20 others were injured in the accident, Erik said. (fac)
