o anticipate staple food price hikes during the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan, Depok administration in West Java is preparing to open low-priced markets to sell subsidized basic goods in 22 locations across all 11 districts of the city.
Depok Deputy Mayor Pradi Supriatna said that in the operation, which would be conducted by the Trade and Industry Agency (Disdagin), various basic cooking materials such as rice, eggs, butter, cooking oil, beef, chicken and sugar would be sold at low prices.
“We will be teaming up with Bulog to realize and oversee the program,” he said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com, referring to the State Logistics Agency.
Disdagin’s trade division head Anim Mulyana said there would be 600 packages sold in each market operation, adding that each package would contain various compositions of basic goods.
He said his office would involve officials from each district and subdistrict to ensure every low-income resident would get coupons required to purchase the goods.
“We are currently conducting surveys to find out the prices of basic goods in the market to ensure that the prices we set will be lower,” he said. (fac)
