section of the apron at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s Terminal 3 was 20 centimeters under water on Tuesday night, adding to a series of problems plaguing the terminal since its inauguration in August 2016.
“Based on our preliminary investigation, a drain was clogged,” Yoda Yarismano, spokesperson of state-owned PT Angkasa Pura II, which operates the airport, said on Wednesday.
He explained that the construction of a driverless skytrain, which will connect three terminals, had affected water drainage, particularly during Tuesday night’s heavy downpour.
He said a team had been set up on Wednesday to thoroughly investigate the cause of the inundation.
Terminal 3 has been widely touted as the best and most opulent airport terminal in the country. However, it has been plagued by problems lately. On Tuesday, 30 Garuda Indonesia flights were delayed for hours due to an electrical failure at the terminal, resulting in long waits for passengers.
