A

group of Indonesian hackers has defaced a total of 27 Malaysian websites following an incident during the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in which organizers hoisted an Indonesian flag upside down.

The group, identified as ExtremeCrew, also responded to an oversight in the official souvenir booklet of SEA Games 2017, which also showed the Indonesian flag upside down,

The Malaysian newspaper Star reported that the hacked sites feature the booklet with the message “Bendera Negaraku Bukanlah Mainan” (My national flag is not a toy), while the Indonesian patriotic anthem “Tanah Air Beta” plays in the background.

The Star also reported that the hacked websites were primarily blogs that are relatively unknown and not affiliated with any official body or large corporation.

The paper also reported that local courier Easyparcel.my was the latest casualty, although it seemed to have been hacked by a different group. The company said it has taken the website down for maintenance and investigation. It assures customers that only the website was affected; the back-end and data are safe.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that he had forgiven Malaysia for the incident while Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrowi has praised the Malaysian government for its quick response to his protest over the flag incident. He has asked his fellow Indonesians to set aside the mistake and move on with the Games.
