T

he Bogor Police have arrested four suspected perpetrators of a gladiator-style fight that resulted in the death of 17-year-old SMA Budi Mulia senior high school student Hilarius Christian Event Raharjo in January 2016.

The suspects were arrested separately in three different locations, the police said.

Bogor Police chief Sr. .Comr. Ulung Sampurna Jaya said that HK, who was suspected of instigating the fight against Hilarius, was arrested in Cijeruk, Bogor, and TB, also suspected of instigating the fight, was apprehended in Kebon Pedes, Bogor. BV, who fought Hilarius, was apprehended in Sleman, Yogyakarta.

Ulung said that MS, the "referee" of the gladiator-style fight, was arrested in Bandung, West Java, for allowing the fight to continue, leading to Hilarius's death.

“We arrested them on Wednesday evening. They are all high school students,” said Ulung.

In consideration of the fact that the suspects were still minors and students, the police will take a special approach in investigating them in line with Law No. 23/2002 on Child Protection. Police interrogators will also be accompanied during the suspects' questioning.

Ulung said the police were pursuing two other suspects who remained at large. “We are also looking into the possible involvement of alumni from the SMA Budi Mulia and SMA Mardi Yuana high schools in this case,” he added.

Citing the results of an autopsy performed on Monday by the West Java Police’s forensic team, Ulung said Hilarius’s body showed signs of physical violence inflicted by blunt objects, including a fatal injury to his abdomen. Hilarius's remains were exhumed on Sept. 19 for an autopsy to discover the cause of death. (ebf)
