group of senior citizens gathered at the headquarters of city-owned bus operator Transjakarta in Cawang, East Jakarta, on Tuesday to apply for senior citizen Transjakarta cards after online fake news reports claimed they would be unable to register for the cards after Jan. 31.
On account of the influx of card applicants, Transjakarta management used its auditorium to accommodate them.
Card applicant Sudirman complained about the long line.
“I waited in line from 9 a.m. and handed over the necessary documents for the card application at 12 p.m.,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Transjakarta spokesman Wibowo said there was no registration deadline, however, senior citizens would be required to show their Transjakarta cards to use the transportation service for free.
“Senior citizens who wish to ride Transjakarta for free have to show their Transjakarta card in accordance with a gubernatorial decree,” Wibowo said. (dpk)
