M

alaysia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to raise their level of co-operation in this area through shared intelligence and networking,  Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said after meeting visiting Saudi Arabia Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud on Wednesday.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said their discussions focused mainly on security.

“We have agreed to strengthen bilateral co-operation on anti-terrorism and cross-border crimes. This will be on top of the security cooperation agreement, which both nations signed in 2011,” he said.

The prince’s three-day visit to Malaysia is the first since his appointment as Interior Minister in June.

Ahmad Zahid said he also took the opportunity to share Malaysia’s experience in deradicalization efforts and offered the module to Saudi Arabia.

In addition to Bahasa Malaysia and English, the module is also available in Arabic and French.

“We highly appreciate the co-operation that we have with Saudi Arabia to fight crime and terror. I also pointed out to Prince Abdulaziz that Malaysia places great emphasis on its relations with countries in the Middle East,” he said.
