Those arrested include the head of the local public works agency and private sector employees.
"So far, no regional head has been arrested," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said.
Two boxes full of money in Rp 50,000 (US$3.60) and Rp 100,000 bills were found during the operation. "We're still in the process of calculating the exact amount, but the estimation is more than Rp 2 billion," Febri explained.
The money was suspected to serve as a kickback for infrastructure projects in the two regions, including road constriction and improvements, as well as school-related projects. (stu/evi)
