he water police have said they will prioritize the safety of Idul Fitri holidaymakers at Ancol Dreamland Park in North Jakarta following the appearance of a crocodile under the Pondok Dayung dock last Friday.
The police began looking for the crocodile on Friday but, as of Monday, they have yet to find it.
The head of the Security Maintenance Agency's rescue division, Comr. Faried, said it was not easy for the police to search for the crocodile in the vast Jakarta Bay.
Therefore, the police would prioritize the safety of holidaymakers, instead of capturing the crocodile, he said.
“We are focusing on keeping the residents safe since it is quite challenging to look for the crocodile,” Faried said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Faried said the police had deployed four boats to patrol Jakarta Bay and protect visitors and residents living in the area as well as boats traveling between the area and the islets of the Thousands Islands regency.
Despite the sighting, visitors have continued to flock to the beach.
Over 60,000 people reportedly visited Ancol Dreamland Park on Saturday, a significant increase from 40,000 on regular weekends and holidays. (cal)
