resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said the operation of the online single submission (OSS) system since last month is a government achievement in bureaucratic reform, particularly in the effort to eliminate red tape in business licensing.
He believes the OSS will be able to further improve the Indonesian rating in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) index.
“Through the reform in the licensing system, we’ve encouraged the implementation of a standardized licensing bureaucracy from the central to regional administrations to make it easier, faster and more integrated,” Jokowi said in his speech in the House of Representatives/People’s Consultative Assembly Building in Jakarta on Thursday.
Jokowi said that through various reform programs, Indonesia would be able to improve its competitiveness significantly, indicated by the jump of its EoDB rating to 72nd, an increase of 48 points in the last three years.
He also underlined a number of achievements by his administration, including the improvement of Indonesia’s competitiveness index from 41 in 2016 to 36 in 2017 and the upgrade in its investment rating by three international institutions -- Moody’s, Fitch and S&P.
The President called on Indonesians to take advantage of the opportunity of increased international faith in Indonesia to boost investment and increase exports, including to non-traditional markets.
“Improved investment and exports are the keys for Indonesia to have a strong economy,” he added. (bbn)
