The Jakarta Police traffic unit's law enforcement head, Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto, said the Libyan, identified as Sabil, 20, was inside a Toyota Avanza car with a driver named Ilyas.
“The driver, Ilyas, 20, broke his left leg. Meanwhile, a Libyan passenger died,” he said on Saturday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Sabil died as a result of severe head injuries after the car crashed at the Lapangan Panahan bus stop at around 3:35 a.m.
“According to an eyewitness, as the car was heading south coming from the north [...] it started shaking on the left and crashed into the Lapangan Panahan bus stop,” Budiyanto said.
The police took Sabil's body to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, while the driver, who has been accused of driver negligence, was administered to Mintohardjo Hospital.
The police confiscated the car and vehicle registration documents. (sau)
