wo suspected motorcycle thieves pretending to be police officers from a narcotics unit were arrested last week in the Delta Silicon Industrial Zone of Sukadami village in South Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.
According to South Cikarang Police crime investigation unit head First Insp. Jefri, MM, 30, and EA, 24, were allegedly posing as narcotics officers last Friday when they ordered a motorcyclist, A, to pull over.
“The suspects pretended to be members of the police’s drug force and accused the victim of carrying drugs,” Jefri said in a written statement on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
After A pulled over as requested, the two suspects allegedly beat him and drove off with his motorcycle.
“The victim asked for help from nearby security officers. There was also a police officer on duty in the area,” Jefri said.
The police and security officers chased after the suspects and were able to capture MM, while EA managed to escape. He was later arrested in Jakarta.
The two reportedly admitted that it had been their first time targeting victims in Cikarang as they usually worked in North and Central Jakarta.
“Their tactics were the same; pretending to be policemen and accusing the victim of having drugs,” Jefri said.
The police confiscated the motorcycle and mobile phones as evidence in the case.
MM and EA will be charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code on robberies. (mai)
