he top 20 female golfers in the world, including current No. 1 Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand and No. 2 Sung-hyun Park of South Korea, will be heading to Singapore in less than a month,  to compete in the HSBC Women’s World Championship from Feb. 28 to March 3.

The world's top female golfers are spearheading one of the strongest events in the tournament’s 12-year history, the organizers said in a statement.

Park once again had a brilliant tour in 2018, recording seven finishes in the top 10, including three tournament titles and her second major win at the 2018 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The 25-year-old was the world's top-seeded player for 10 consecutive weeks, finishing outside of the top five in the Rolex World Rankings for just one week – a remarkable feat for a player who turned professional only two years ago.

Also joining defending champion Michelle Wie, Jutanugarn and Park on Singapore's New Tanjong Course are crowd favorites world No. 5 Lexi Thompson and world No. 8 Brooke Henderson, as well as RICOH Women’s British Open champion Georgia Hall. The event will also see former top seeds So-yeon Ryu (South Korea), Inbee Park (South Korea), Shanshan Feng (China) and Lydia Ko (New Zealand).

After an impressive 2018 season during which she broke into the top 10 for the first time in her career, Australia's Minjee Lee is looking to her best-ever finish at this year’s world championship after securing sixth place last year – her strongest finish to date.

Following 13 top-10 finishes that saw her walk away with the Greg Norman Medal – Australian golf’s most prestigious individual honor -- Lee is looking forward to the 2019 championship.

“2018 was an absolutely incredible journey for me and I managed to get off to a flying start. Fingers crossed I’m able to kickstart the 2019 season well and bring that form to the HSBC Women’s World Championship to match up against the very best,” she said.

The US$1.5-million HSBC Women’s World Championship is an invitational that accommodates a maximum 63 players. There is no cut, so all participants must play the full 72 holes of the tournament.

The invitees comprise world’s top 20 players of the Rolex World Ranking list on Dec. 31, 2018, LPGA tournament winners, two sponsored invitees, the winner of the 2019 HSBC Women’s World Championship regional qualifier and selected members of 2019 LPGA Priority List. (nkn)
