resident Prabowo Subianto held his first bilateral meeting with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Monday in Singapore, hailing what Jakarta has marked as a “new phase” in the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Prabowo was welcomed in a ceremony at the Parliament House, after which Singapore’s Tharman praised the “promising” nature of Indonesia-Singapore relations, especially in the investments sector, according to a press release from Prabowo’s Presidential Secretariat.
The two neighbors will intensify their cooperation on various strategic sectors, as well as diversify Singapore’s investments for Jakarta’s private sectors, Indonesia said in the statement released after the meeting.
Prabowo arrived in Singapore on Sunday evening to kickstart weeklong international engagements, which will include a meeting with Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong and a trip to Russia to meet with his counterpart Vladimir Putin and attend an economic event in Saint Petersburg.
Prabowo’s visit to Singapore marked an “important moment” for the two countries’ strategic cooperation, and signified his “diplomatic efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s regional partnerships amid an ever-developing global dynamic”, according to the statement from Prabowo’s office.
Included in Prabowo’s delegation was Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Social Empowerment Minister Muhaimin Iskandar, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Home Minister Tito Karnavian, as well as Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Roeslani.
Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait were also present during the visit.
