tate-owned lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and the Indonesian Farmers Association (HKTI) have agreed to cooperate to optimize the country’s micro-credit program (KUR) through a strategic partnership for the provision and use of banking services.
BRI president director Suprajarto said the bank had targeted to distribute 60 percent of its KUR to the productive sector, noting that previously, BRI had distributed 43 percent to the sector, kontan.co.id reported.
In 2019, BRI aims to distribute Rp 86.97 trillion (US$6.14 billion) in KUR, an increase from Rp 80.2 trillion in 2018.
Suprajarto said the HKTI was a large market with 4 million farmers throughout Indonesia.
The HKTI’s chairperson, Indonesian Military (TNI) Gen. (ret.) Moeldoko, said the KUR distribution was expected to help solve problems faced by farmers in Indonesia.
"Through collaboration with BRI, we are confident that farmers will have easier access to capital,” he added.
Prior to its collaboration with the HKTI, BRI had made various efforts to advance the agricultural sector by granting access to capital in the form of KUR, agricultural entrepreneurship programs, social forestry and distribution of farmer cards.
"We hope that our cooperation with the HKTI will benefit HKTI members and all farmers,” Suprajarto said. (aak/dwa)
